CERC sata 1.5 on Debian 3.1

I used the custom Debian 3.1 install discs that use a 2.6.14 kernel. I was
able to install and system works OK most of the time. It fails from time to
time when backing up to a CD-RW disc. I don't have enough errors to diagnose
further. I am going to try to upgrade to the 2.6.16 or later kernel do see
if this corrects the problem. Anyone else having issues with the CERC
controller under Debian or using a 2.6.14 or later kernel?
