Actually, according to the system documentation, the problem is not
the slots in use, but the number of the DIMMs:

Memory modules must be installed in pairs of matched memory size,
speed, and technology, and the total number of memory modules in the
configuration must total two, four, or eight.
---
It looks like 6 DIMMs are not an optimal configuration, whatever slots
you use ...
Does anyone know why is that?
