Dell PE1850/2850 RAID array issue with RHEL4

Indeed, I forgot to mention the drives:
The problematic 1850 with Perc 4/Si controller has 2 Seagates (136Gb)
drives in RAID1
Model : ST3146707LC rev. D703
We have another 1850 with the same config except that one is running
Maxtors (ATLAS10K5_73SCA rev JNZY).
That (not problematic) machine is also NOT on the 2.6.9-34.0.1.ELsmp
kernel, this makes the troubleshooting even more pleasant ;-)
I have also found out that the problematic machine had a load spike
(of 6 - 15min avg) around the period all disk IO stopped (loss of
syslog etc).
I've read Perc horror stories about load and Percs deciding to shut
down ;-( from a while ago...
On a side note:
I read the webpage about the Maxtors.
My OMSA lists my Maxtors as "ATLAS10K5_73SCA".
Anyone know how I can find out if this is one of the Maxtor Genesis
mentioned on that page (ATLAS10KV = genesis) since I do not see any
correlation between my OMSA model nr's and the ones on the Dell
webpage :

document?docid=10DA10AD1A67ADD9E040030ABD62644F&c=us&l=en&s=gen
BTW, thanks to all of you for all your input. Much appreciated.
