ppp0 bandwidth spiking

Greetings,
We have several PowerEdge 2650's (A19/ESM 3.14/om_410/RHAS 2.1 e38) with a Remote Access Controller. As you know, this RAC card uses a ppp interface. I am using a product called Denika to track interface bandwidth and over the weekend I noticed the PPP interface spike from a constant:
96 bytes/ps IN
55 bytes/ps OUT
to:
60Mbit/ps IN
59Mbit/ps OUT
for about 3 minutes - our threshold alert went off which brought this to my attention. Based on the SNMP graphs, this exact thing happened 3 weeks ago at the same time.
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
inet addr:192.168.234.235 P-t-P:192.168.234.236 Mask:255.255.255.255
What would cause the ppp0 interface on 10BaseT half-duplex to spike like that? Is there an OM cleanup process of some kind? Anyone else see this?
Thanks,
Gabe Small
