  Sounds familiar.  I suspect your culprit is the bug (?) found at
 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=104633> -
 supposedly there's a beta kernel available in RHN which fixes the
 performance problems.  I reccomend you give that one a shot.
