About large swaps...

Someone (my apologies for not remembering who) said that a swap > 2GB is
wasted.
I'm now really curious about that.
Can that be explained or a reference given about this?
I've got 2GB core and 2GB swap and I added (because we can't reconfigure
the drives yet) two swap files each of which is 1GB to the swap space and
I've seen them both used. (Yea, we've got some people who REALLY use
memory.)
