This may seem like a triviality but when you are testing kernels, the time
it takes for my 2650 to check memory, start the RAID system etc is long.
When you know these are OK, this is time wasted. Since the kernel
compilation is now pretty quick with 2xXeons and -j switch (-j 8 seems
optimal), almost as much time is spent rebooting as recompiling.
So is there a quick-reboot alternative to reboot/shutdown -r now/C-A-D?
Even better if you can specify which of the grub-listed kernels to reboot
rather than the default - although a sed edit on grub.conf is obviously
possible this would permanently alter the file.
