BCM5700 Problems

Sorry for the email out of the blue but I am really frustrated with getting
Debian to perform to my liking on my Dell PowerEdge 2650 Servers...

I got your email from the net through the mailgroups...

Basically my problem is getting the card to be set to full duplex where
right now it's set at half duplex.

I did edit the /etc/modules.conf file by adding

alias eth0 bcm5700
options bcm5700 line_speed=100 and so on and it doesn't seem to pick it
up...

when I tail /var/log/messages, it still reports: acidrho kernel: tg3: eth1:
Link is up at 100 Mbps, half duplex.

There is no sign of the module you speak of, tg3.o, or the one I am trying
to install bcm5700.o yet I have network connectivity (very peculiar)...

I will forward my concerns to linux-poweredge at dell.com from now on...

Thank you for your time and courtesy...

Cheers,
Mohammad

Ok, a couple of observations:

-- Where did you get my email, and why are you emailing me? (I used to do
NIC stuff a long time ago, but moved out of that area about a year ago.)
linux-poweredge at dell.com is a good list to subscribe to to get resolution to
this kind of problem.

-- Why are you using bcm5700? Debian 2.4.20 has a perfectly serviceable
driver called 'tg3.o' that will drive Broadcom cards. (IIRC, I know newer
2.4.21 and 2.4.22 do.)

-- Is your kernel smp? It looks like you compiled the module for smp, it is
not clear to me whether your kernel is also smp.
