If you are still having this issue, it may not actually be a bad battery.
The batteries tend to discharge prior to shipment.  Consider trying the
following:

Power down the server for at least one hour: this will give the battery to
fully charge.
Power the system back on, check if the error message appears
If the message still appears: 

Clear the ESM log (tech support can assist you in this if you haven't done
this before), disconnect the power cord from the back of the server, reseat
the battery (as discussed earlier) and reboot the server again.

If these procedures don't work, you will probably want to call tech support
to request a replacement or to see if they have any further ideas.
