inode ratio creation for large filesystems ?

hi,

does anyone have input into creation of large filesystems ?

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdb1 1.2T 33M 1.1T 1% /data1
/dev/sdc1 1.4T 33M 1.3T 1% /data2
/dev/sdd1 1.2T 33M 1.1T 1% /data3
/dev/sde1 1.4T 33M 1.3T 1% /data4

Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/sdb1 146M 11 146M 1% /data1
/dev/sdc1 9.6M 11 9.6M 1% /data2
/dev/sdd1 146M 11 146M 1% /data3
/dev/sde1 9.6M 11 9.6M 1% /data4

i've got a couple of scsi devices which are greater than
a terabyte each and by default ext3fs tries to create
something like 100+ million inodes on a filesystem.

this seems excessive - i'm looking at cutting this back
down to around 10 million (which also seems excessive but
by a factor of 3 rather than an order of magnitude.

i don't except to have more than 2-3 million files on these
filesystems.. ever..

hmm, i will have to time how long a fsck takes too.. sigh..

regards,

-jason
