I cannot speak authoritatively, but I can share my experiences.

I started with a bunch of 2550's (1.266Mhz) running RH7.2 (intel NICs)
Ran without flaw since last ~september (2001).

This last september (2002) I replaced them with 2650s.
I pulled the hard drives from the 2550s installed in 2650s (2.4Mhz).
kudzu found the new NICs as bcm5700, updated modules.conf and they have
been running fine since.

I added another 2650 from the same batch to the server farm this morning
( I was using it for testing before). New, patched install of RH 7.3 (
the others are 7.2). My server type stuff (apache/php) was the same.

RH7.2 seems to use bcm5700 , RH 7.3 uses tg3

the tg3 crashed ~30 minutes later (load balancer FAILed it, no DNS load
balancing here :). I switched it from tg3 to bcm5700 and it has been
running strong all day.

New RH7.3:
[chrismcc at chip chrismcc]$ /sbin/lspci | grep Broadcom
03:06.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5701
Gigabit Ethernet (rev 15)
03:08.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5701
Gigabit Ethernet (rev 15)

[chrismcc at chip chrismcc]$ uname -a
Linux chip 2.4.18-18.7.xsmp #1 SMP Wed Nov 13 19:01:42 EST 2002 i686
unknown

RH7.2:

[chrismcc at belle chrismcc]$ /sbin/lspci | grep -i Broadcom
03:06.0 Ethernet controller: BROADCOM Corporation NetXtreme BCM5701
Gigabit Ethernet (rev 15)
03:08.0 Ethernet controller: BROADCOM Corporation NetXtreme BCM5701
Gigabit Ethernet (rev 15)

[chrismcc at belle chrismcc]$ uname -a
Linux belle.pricegrabber.com 2.4.18-17.7.xsmp #1 SMP Tue Oct 8 12:37:04
EDT 2002 i686 unknown

I also have a RH 7.3 bootnet.img patched w/ tg3 for kickstart if anyone
is interested
