format travan tape

Hi,
I've got a PowerEdge server running redhat8.0 that I must say is doing a
beautiful job. The tape drive that we ordered with the system is an IDE
Seagate STT20000A which uses the Travan cartridges. I have one tape that
fails every time with the "Medium format corrupted" message. Anyone know
how I might re-format this tape?

'mt -f /dev/nst0 erase' appears to hang for a few hours accomplishing
nothing.

Do I need a tool from ftape? Or possibly 'mt mkpartition'?

-Eric

Dear Dario,

I had the same problem on our two PE2550. I tried to configure teaming
with the 2 onboard NICs, but I noticed, that this will never work with
a broadcomm and an Intel NIC.
So, I plugged a third NIC, Intel 1000Gb (e1000), installed the iANS-package,
(see http://support.intel.com/support/go/linux/ans.htm ) and use the 2 Intel NICs
for teaming.
With this configuration teaming is working perfectly!
You should find different posting on this issue on this lists archive.

Regards
Hans-Peter

In the file "Teaming.txt" included in the bcm5700 driver
(bcom_60_RH73_rpm_01.tar.gz) delivered by Dell I read:

################## Teaming.txtexcerpt #########################################

Dell Server support of Multi-vendor Network Interface Card teaming.

Dell Server's Network Drivers support the use of an intermediate driver
to provide advanced services such as Teaming and IEEE 802.1Q VLANS. Both Intel
and Broadcom provide intermediate drivers specific to their network controllers
and drivers, both vendor's intermediate driver allow for the inclusion of other
brands of NICs in teaming configurations.

################################################################################

So I deduce should be possible include Broadcom and Intel adapter in the same
Team (otherwise I will not understand why Dell integrated so incompatible
adapter on the same motherboard).

Maybe the question regards more the Intel driver provided. Infact basp requires
that the driver for other adapter be NICE compliant, and infact when I start my
team on the syslog I find:

basp: eth0 does not support Broadcom NIC Extension (NICE).
basp: cannot bind eth0 to team TeamSw0 because SLB requires Broadcom NICE
support

So, does anybody know if the Intel driver for the Intel adpater
(e100-2.0.35-rh73.i386.rpm) is NICE compliant?

Thanks

Dario
