hmm, it seems to be off:

bordeaux:/home/frank# hdparm -d /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
using_dma    =  0 (off)
	
bordeaux:/home/frank# hdparm -d /dev/hdb

/dev/hdb:
using_dma    =  0 (off)
