Installing OMSA, custom kernel, no X

I'm trying to install OMSA on my 4400, but I'm not playing by the
installer's rules. Specifically:
- I've built my own kernel (I'm a huge fan of LIDS)
- I haven't got X installed (it's a server)

So the java installer chokes on the lack of X, and the RPM's complain
about my kernel sources.

I've tried to decode the shell scripts and such to figure out exactly
what's going on, but my wizardry is not yet up to par.

Would someone shed light on the contents of the .tar file and process
for installing OMSA by hand?

Thanks much!
