This paper describes how a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) stack was
implemented on Dell's first modular server, the PowerEdge 1655MC blade, a
two- processor server, six of which fit in a 3U chassis. Redundant Apache
web servers with the PHP4 application server ran a Baseball statistics Top
10 application on two blades, driving a MySQL replication cluster on four
blades. All blades ran on Red Hat Linux 7.3, which is available pre-loaded
on the PE1655MC. This configuration was able to handle 400 simultaneous
users of the baseball Top 10 page, demonstrating that the PowerEdge 1655MC
is a cost-effective platform for Open Source applications.
