Ubuntu doesn't use tmpfs for managing /tmp currently.  There was a
discussion about switching to this for Ubuntu 9.10 at the Ubuntu
Developer's Summit last week however.  There are a couple of extended
security related points that need to be first reviewed.

There is actually a startup script that clears out /tmp upon bootup
