dell wireless 1450 low signal

Hi,

I have a Dell Wireless 1450 USB adapter.
It can finds all networks and only connect to very close to the access
point.
But when I plug the adapter in on my laptop and walk away from the access
point, the signal stays.
This is of course a problem for my pc upstairs.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 on both systems and the adapter use 'prism54usb' as
driver.

I don't have any problems under XP.

Can you please help me out?
