Dell Optiplex 755's with Ubuntu 7.10 (QUad Core Systems)

Just tried that, still no avail...this is insane.  Is there some sort of
related glitch that could be result of all or a mix of the following not
working properly with each other:

ICH9 chipset
The onboard audio that comes with the 755 Optiplex
Alsa
linux-backport-modules?(advised to install earlier)

I'm totaly stumped on this one, I may for the last time reinstall again and
start from scratch...not quite there yet.
