Hello,

I have recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400n with Windows Vista
pre-installed and I am planning to install Ubuntu using the remastered
Ubuntu 7.04 ISO.

Has anybody any experience of doing this ?.

Does it work ??

Does it result in a fully function machine (i.e. no hardware issues) ??

Does it result in a dual-boot set-up (or does it wipe Vista
completely) ??

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom Weafer

I have a Dell D620 which had vista pre-installed on it and i have tried
installing ubuntu on it. It is working as a charm :). And No, installing
ubuntu doesn't wipe off Vista. I have dual boot working on it. The
only issue i face is about bluetooth not working directly, but their is
one weird work around which gets it working after some jazz. So overall
no hardware issues.

HTH

   rahul

Sadly, you can't generalize on that subject.
With my 640m / e1405 Dell Notebook, I had to install a different video
driver, but that worked with adpet, so no problem there. The only
thing, that doesn't work completely is the card reader... I can't
access some cards, while I can access others... =/ But that is not too
bad, as I don't use these cards too often .. :)

Have a look at [1]. It's a site, where you can read reviews and such
of installing Linux on Laptops... Have a look, and maybe you can
gather some info!

COme back and ask if you're unsure!

Cheers!
