Dell Ubuntu 7.04 on Inspiron 1520: silent microphone?

Hi all,

I'm quite satisfied by my ubuntu install and by
my new Inspiron 1520.

I can use everything, including bluetooth, wifi, ethernet,
audio, fn keys, ... The only thing that seems to be missing
is the built-in microphone (I suppose it's placed in the little
holes near the webcam).

Do anyone know how to make it work?
I tried to fiddle with various mixer settings, but with
no luck. I seem to have read something about microphone not
working properly, but I can't seem to return to that information.

Any help is appreciated...
