As I mentioned in my post earlier, the problem was with my router, not the
D520. I already had all of these installed ("emerged" in Gentoo-speak). I
was a little concerned that they might only work in a 32-bit environment, but
they seem to work fine with the 64-bit system.

All this is already available in Gentoo portage. Just "emerge ipw3945" gets
everything: the microcode, the daemon, the ieee80211 module, and the ipw3945
module.

Does wpa_supplicant support the Intel 3945? None of the lists of supported
cards I've seen show this card as supported.
