Sound on D610 laptop

I realize this is not an officially supported laptop for Dell Linux but
I thought I'd ask here anyway.

I have tried several Linux distros including ubuntu 7.04 and my current
distro PCLinuxOS 2007. The problem I am having is getting sound to work
through my external speakers when the laptop is in the docking station.
It works perfectly if I am out of the docking station. It also works if
I plug the speakers into the headphone jack instead of into the docking
station. I know there's a way to make this work because it works if I
boot into Windows XP. Is there a driver I need for the docking station?
Is there something I need to configure on the Linux sound system? Any
help would be appreciated and if I find a solution here do you mind if I
also post it on the PCLINUXOS forums?

My setup: PCLinuxOS 2007, KDE 3.5.6, Dell D610 laptop, speakers are
built into a Samsung syncmaster 173b. Sound card I think is Sigmatel
C-Major Audio. At least that's what shows up in the Windows device manager
