Jason,

This is not a hardware problem fixable by calling Dell Tech Support.
This is a widely reported incompatibility betweeen the NV chipset in
shiny new Dell hardware (the Dimension *521) and extent Linux kernels'
USB drivers.

The supposition on the table is that kernel 2.6.18-2 fixes the
incompatibility.  This seems like the right list to confirm or shoot
down that suggestion.  Anyone?
