Dell Delivers New Enterprise Capabilities for Servers, Workstations with
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
Dell Provides One Stop Shopping for Red Hat Global Training and
Certification
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Round Rock, Texas, October 22, 2003
Customers can now purchase or upgrade to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
for Dell PowerEdge servers and select Dell Precision workstations
for the latest enterprise-class performance, scalability and
reliability.
Dell customers also can now buy Red Hat training and certification
courses from Dell, providing added convenience and ease of training
fulfillment.
"Dell servers and workstations running this new version of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux provide customers with a more powerful enterprise
computing platform to address multiple aspects of scalable
enterprise computing," said Pete Morowski, vice president of
software, Dell Product Group. "New features and multiple versions
of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 can deliver more cost-effective and
flexible computing for large databases, high-performance computing,
Web farms and more."
Customers who deploy Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 on Dell servers and
workstations will now have support for larger memory configurations
and enhanced hyperthreading and security features.
Dell will support all three versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
to best address end-to-end deployment needs from backend data
center applications to edge-of-network applications and workstation
environments. The versions are:
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 AS -- recommended for deployment on
four processor PowerEdge servers used for enterprise
applications, such as Oracle databases and application
clustering;
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 ES -- designed for Web serving, file
and print and small-to-medium businesses that use PowerEdge
servers with one to two processors;
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 WS -- designed for Dell Precision
workstation users for tasks such as graphical rendering and
software development, and for high-performance computing
clusters.
Dell is adding new levels of convenience for its Red Hat users by
enabling customers to purchase Red Hat global training offerings
from Dell. Training packages bought through Dell can be completed
at either Red Hat training centers or at the customer site using
Dell hardware. This program will be available in EMEA and Japan
later this year.
Dell customers already subscribed to the Red Hat Network or who
order Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 from Dell can immediately
upgrade to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 at no additional cost at Red
Hat's Web site, www.redhat.com. Dell plans to factory install Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 3 on Dell PowerEdge servers in February 2004
and on select Dell Precision workstations in November 2003.
