You asked, we listened, we acted.
The Dell OpenManage team is pleased to announce availability of BIOS and
Embedded Server Management (ESM) Update Packages.
>From the User Guide at:
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/software/smdup/dup11/index.htm
Dell Update Packages offer new levels of ease and flexibility for
updating the system software on Dell PowerEdge systems running Red Hat
Linux. Update Packages are available for the following software
components:
* System BIOS
* System firmware, also known as the Embedded Systems Management
(ESM) firmware
By using the Update Packages, you can perform the following functions:
* Apply an individual update to a system by using an interactive command
line interface.
* Execute multiple updates for your system by using a script comprised
of non-interactive commands that you write using the command line
interface (CLI) feature.
* Leverage your operating system's scheduling and software distribution
utilities to apply updates remotely to any large numbers of servers.
Each update package is designed to update a single software component on
your system. This product feature allows you to select and apply just
the updates that you want for your system, thus minimizing the resources
required to transport the packages across your network.
Update Packages improve your ability to update your systems effectively.
For example, each package contains pertinent information about when Dell
issued the package, which systems the package is designed to support,
and what functional enhancements are contained in the update or which
problems were corrected.
Update Package Component and System Compatibility
Update Packages currently do not support every system component type. Dell
will continue to make Update Packages available on additional devices in
future releases. This release of Update Packages supports updates to the
system components listed:
