ESM update tools

Quick question, how does one update the ESM on a system not using the
.BIN file from the support.dell.com? For example, I am using a debian
tiny install to update the BIOS on systems using libsmbios
(dellBiosUpdate -u -f header). This has been pretty reliable but it's
highly suggested that I update the ESM prior to the BIOS.
Which utility is it that the .BIN file uses? I only ask because the
BIOS tool has a similar tool, but actually just uses libsmbios with a
compiled wrapper such as this. I see a lot of references to
'disneyinstall' in .BIN file but nothing much else.
Any help will be appreciated.
