firmware-tools 1.1.1 has been pushed to the repos. There was some sort of push problem where it made it to the download site but not the repos. Fixed.

did it actually download and install an RPM?

I dont think so. This is different. Thanks for working with me on this, I'd like to find out what is going on in your system.

What is the output from getSystemId? What is the output from "find /usr/share/firmware/"?
