The problem with the Optiplex 740 is that it is in a different format from the rest of the headers, and I dont have a way to extract the .hdr file from Linux. I found out about this last week. Here shortly, I'll probably try to contact the BIOS team to find out how to write an extractor for it, but for now, there isnt anything I can do with it. :(
If you have a windows machine, run "O740-xxx.exe -writehdrfile -nopause" and see what happens. If it gives you a file named xxxx.hdr, then that is encouraging, as it is likely I will be able to write an extractor for it when I get the time.

Subject: missing hdr for optiplex 740
Hello,
and thank's a lot for the work on firmware-tools and the hdr repository,
it is much appreciated and _very_ usefull.
Checking a bunch of optiplex I discovered that there is no hdr provided
in the repository for optiplex 740 (System ID:0x01EC).
Hmmm, grep -i O740 config.ini gives 4 UNPROCESSED matches. extraction pb.
Any chance this might change in the future (no pressing need) ?
On a side not what information does
http://linux.dell.com/repo/software/bios-hdrs/config.ini provide ?
I though that it was the log of the archive building process but most
bios extraction for optiplex GX280 System Id : 0x0179) failed in there
... and all the bios are present in the archive ?
@+,
Fab
