The full dell version has 2 additional barclamps with smarts about them.
BIOS - makes sure to level-set various firmware pieces on the boxes, and set bios parameters to a consistent set. This is very Dell HW specific.
RAID - configures a variety of LSI RAID controllers (also known as PERC's) to fit the appropriate layout for the node's role. So, for swift/hadoop data nodes- JBOD, and for other roles RAID10.
For non-dell hw - you can either do this manually, or build your own barclamp (which you'll obviously contribute back for the benefit of other folks).
The builds on Zehicle are Rob's efforts to support the community and make it easier for folks to get started. They however are not officially supported by Dell (though, ping the list, and folks will try to help).

Subject: [Crowbar] What did Rob's notes on Crowbar mean?
Reading Rob's blog http://robhirschfeld.com/2011/07/26/crowbar-source-released/, and I can't fully understand the "what is not included" part.
What's not included?
* Non-open source license components (BIOS+RAID config) that we could not distribute under the Apache 2 license. We are working to address this and include them in our release. They are available in the Dell Licensed version of Crowbar.
o [Q from Sean] So, suppose I have a set of my own non-Dell servers, because the BIOS+RAID components are not available, what capability am I losing? Should I manually setup BIOS (if so, what config should I setup to) and RAID (if so, setting to RAID 1+0 or JBOD?)
* Dell Branded Components (skin + overview page). Crowbar has an OpenSource skin with identical functionality.
* Pre-built ISOs with install images (you must download the open source components yourself, we cannot redistribute them to you as a package)
o [Q from Sean] Isn't this item outdated by this offering? http://crowbar.zehicle.com/
