[Crowbar] Which release/branch to work on

Right now feature branches in dev are hardcoded to merge into the "development" release -- this is a shortcoming I plan on fixing now that I have been using the feature branch stuff for long enough to get a feel for how it should work.

Ok. So is it possible to create a feature branch of of essex-hack using "dev"? Or how else is the workflow supposed to look if I plan to contribute my work back to the main dellcloudedge repo? The README isn't exactly clear on this.
