If you happen to be on a mac, textutil does a good job of converting doc, docx, and rtf to html, and pandoc does a good job of converting the resulting html to markdown:
$ textutil --convert html file.doc | pandoc -f html -t markdown

I have a script<https://gist.github.com/1181510> that I threw together a while back that tries to use textutil, pdf2html, and pandoc to convert whatever I throw at it to markdown.



I'll give that a try and then may reach out for cleanup help.

I think markdown is the way to go for docu. can be transferred to anything ( => pdf) but would allow for a git workflow (just text)

to build html docu ..

I was thinking about updates to our online help PDF for the import feature and lamenting that our help is a PDF instead of lovely HAML or HTML pages.

Is anyone interested in decomposing the current PDF into a more git & web friendly format?
