Thanks - that is a helpful page, as is the list of barclamps it links
to - they are not linked from the front page which is probably why I
didn't find them.

Is it using Ohai or is it dmidecode and lspci directly?

Ah fair enough - I have had to disable that as it doesn't seem to work
on HP machines, same as this issue:
http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/crowbar/2012-January/000785.html

Not a major problem, as configuring the BMC I can deal with.
