I like chef and ruby conceptually and all, but I'm a systems administrator first. It's really hard for me to follow the conversation at time when people are talking about rainbows, blue pills, recipes, cookbooks, proposals. I appreciate the roots  of these tokens, I myself having spent some time managing my brainfuck with subversion, but they are not really descriptive of their function.  This is probably a barrier to entry for sysadmins with strong development backgrounds in every language but ruby.

Since I was googling anyway, I started a wiki page to help myself.

Anyone more knowledgeable have anything to add?
