My CDROM is corrupting data.
You need to turn off DMA to your CDROM. To do this, add the line below:
        hdparm -d0 /dev/cdrom
to the end of your /etc/rc.d/rc.local file.
Or, to disable DMA for all IDE devices globally, pass "ide=nodma" to the kernel via the boot loader (lilo or grub).
